It is a compelling exhibit, not high tech but powerful.

The idea is to welcome visitors (avatars) from different countries and languages. We will propose a visit of Camp Darfur and some information about the current situation in Sudan and the high stakes of the meeting of monday. Visitors will find all the ressources available, and they will also find people who can answer their questions and who can tell them how they can help in solving this crisis with different ways: writing letters to governments, signing petition, giving money, organizing meetings IRL and/or in SL, spreading on their blog etc. There are still some interested and "SL skilled" people for French, English and German speaking. I'm new on SL and can't build anything nor deal with bringing some videos and/or podcasts in-world. e. g. I'd love to find a way to show some of the i-Act movies, and there are also some interesting movies in French (I think of one the UN refugee agency gave me for the Sudan Vigil in Dijon in 2005) and i'm sure there are some in German. So, if any onet SLer want to give a hand you are welcome! Another aspect of this meeting is to try to cross SL gathering with physical gathering. Let me explain: there are some people who'd like to participate but who haven't any good enough computer and/or bandwidth, or who just don't no "WTF is SecondLife" ! There are also people who'd like to live this moment more intensely with sharing their emotions physically with others. So, we'd like to encourage people who will attend in-world to let other people know were they are if they want to welcome other Peace Keepers who are around. e. g. I've still a friend who will welcome people in Paris and show them Camp Darfur, I will do the same in Dijon (except if I finally join others in Paris) and there should be some spots in the East and South of France and probably in Germany and Switzerland. Of course anybody can do the same from any part of the world and we can map these spots. The gathering should start at 6pm Paris Time, that's 9am SL Time (PST). Your ideas, remarks and feedback are so welcome! If you plan to come you can say when on the comments. You can spread this initiative in English, but also in French or in German. Did I say it was a blast? It was very interesting, especially hearing Gabriel's thoughts on what has worked with Camp Darfur. The use of babblers to have bilingual discussion was also noteable...easy to give and share, although the translations were less than perfect.

I should may be specify that I'm a newbie in SL (max 10 hours spent inworld), and that was my first real meeting inworld. And I can add that it was particularly WOW for me to feel the potential of international and cross-languages collaboration. I've try these years with different ways to improve this kind of collaboration (with the creation of a French speaking airlock here on onet or, more recently, with starting a global nptech portal during WineCamp), and I love to consider this SL meeting as a flicker for bridging some "save Darfur activists" from different languages and countries. There is probably a great amount of efficiency to save with sharing energy and ressources more globaly. I have a phone call rendez-vous this WE with Natacha (Natacha Salomon inworld) who is a friend and one of the founders of the movement "Les Humains Associés" (a large French online network of humanists and doogooders). We will have a kind of debriefing and organize our actions. Our first concrete actions will concern iACT that we'd like to translate in French. I've had some emails these days with Gabriel who is enthusiast, and I also know the enthusiasm about that of one of the 2 main French associations that act for Darfur. I will of course share here the conclusions of our call.

It’s fair to say that you will not return from your visit the same person you were when you started it. The island is quite large and comprises a great many different areas. One teleports in to a place where one can immediately select the area one wishes to visit; but I eschewed that option and chose to, first, walk around the island on the boardwalk that’s been thoughtfully provided. I was rewarded by exquisite views, including a whale who hovered just beneath the water’s shimmering surface, and the lovely soothing sound of the surf. Soothing is a strange word to choose when describing the Better World Island, for much of what one sees and learns here is anything but. Still, the island’s creators had the wisdom, in showing visitors placces where things are very wrong in the world, to make it clear that we can change that darkness; and the beauties of the island stand testament to the possibilities that we call carry inside ourselves. Walking in this manner, I passed an intimate concert venue (and of course had to try out the drums myself!), a lovely Spanish tavern, complete with crackling fire, and thus arrived at La Paz: The Peace Tiles Center. Soon you will be able to “claim” your own Peace Tile to decorate as part of a larger mural that will be based on special themes. This digital project is based on a real-world one, and the murals will be auctioned off in support of the real-world Peace Tiles projects. More information will be available at La Paz in the coming days. For now, let me invite you to join us here where the real Global Peace Tiles project began on omidyar.net. The Peace Tiles project was launched by omidyar.net member Lars Hasselblad Torres. Peace Tiles create opportunities for people of all ages to share in fun and educational art-making activities to produce murals that bring inspiration to communities in need, locally and globally. For real-world examples and pictures, visit here. IM Lars Took (Lars Torres) for more information. After thinking about peace tiles, I peeked in the windows of the island’s performing arts center: … before continuing on my way. The administration building holds a great deal of information about the various projects supported by the island, as well as information about the people involved in Better World Island. There’s an opportunity there to make a donation; I did, and hope that you will as well. From there I wandered around the Garden of Hope for some time. The garden is a lovely place, covering a hillside or two, complete with cherry blossoms so real one could swear one can smell them, as well as an odd but welcome assortment of farm animals. As always, being around these peaceful creatures has a calming effect. And then it was time to take a deep breath and look at some of the things that the world and the media prefer to turn away from … … including Camp Darfur … … and the Baghdad streets … Read all the notecards, all the posters, everywhere; I did, and was touched deeply, not only by what I was reading, but also by the care that the island people have taken to make these exhibits real and alive and moving. Tears of an Iraqi Girl See how those who lost loved ones on 9/11 Have changed their grief into acts of peace. Learn how you can help this girl, An innocent victim of political violence. Become a part of the nonviolent actions That move this world toward more peaceful tomorrows. Make a contribution. Make a difference. Make peace. www.peacefultomorrows.org or IM: PT Witte After that, I needed some time to sit and think about what I had seen and what I had learned, so I took a seat at the Book Place, part of Rabble.ca’s modern and informative island presence: CARE is here, as well, and the Peace and Justice Center, where there is even more for you to read and view. Here I am, getting ready to watch one of the films available. Many of them are difficult to watch; for that reason, I urge you to try. I ended my visit at the Center for Water Studies. Here you can borrow a kayak (be nice, though, as you move past the crocodile – or is it an alligator?), or just put your feet in the water and soak up the beauty around you, in such sharp contrast to what you’ve just seen and heard and learned, as I did … The welcome message to this area reads, in part, We invite you to explore and enjoy the “natural” scenery and water activities at the Center for Water Studies. This Center is an educational and recreational build dedicated to increasing the appreciation and understanting of water habitats. We hope that we can all use what we learn about water habitats in SL to better care for our precious water resources in RL. Degraded water systems are a serious threat to human health in many RL lands. Currently, this small island contains six distinct water areas that simulate some natural ones found primarily in the north temperate zone with some semi-tropical areas as well. Save some time: don’t visit this island when you’re in a hurry, or only half-paying attention: it deserves focus. The most important thing to note is that this isn’t just about the pain in the world, but about what you and I can do to alleviate it. Consider joining the keepers of Better World Island in helping make the whole world better place. (This Second Life review was brought to you by SecondSeeker.com.)

It is beyond me to understand why you felt at liberty to do these things in the first place, but I have had no desire to embarrass you here on the thread so I just asked you politely if you would please transfer the domain to me. I really appreciate that fact that you did, but I can't imagine why my use of that domain now or in the future has anything to do with you being taken for a ride. It was also very stressful to return from Africa and see that you had taken over quite a large area of BWI and used hundreds of prims, without ever asking my permission. I tried very hard to be diplomatic about asking you to remove your installations, and I was also very clear that if you could come up with a version that was more suited to BWI that I would welcome that proposal. That offer is still open for discussion. Better World Island is a place meant for collaboration, but not in a way that is disrespectful to the owner who so graciously pays the nearly $200.00 USD per month to make the space available. I am that person Dominique, and I would appreciate it if you would take that into consideration. I also think that you need to take a hard look at whether your criticisms stem from your feelings regarding being asked to remove your builds. For your information though, the domain will eventually be redirected to my ning.com network site. Which will serve as the hub for BWI activites for the rest of the foreseeable future. If you have further "bees in your bonnet" I'm available via email and PM at any time, however I will not continue to dicuss it on this thread which is for BWI news and updates. Sincerely,
