I like how you donate to a charity and get a ride (did I understand that right?) I wonder how you could tie this in to something like VolunteerMatch.com - you could search for RL community service projects while in SL... advantages vs. using the web??

yep, just as if you were visiting a real fair, all the rides and games cost something...but it's to raise money for good causes.
VolunteerMatch could be a good infobooth!hmmmm

I'm so glad you're working on this....can't wait to integrate your work with BWI. And the rides are a great idea! I love the Holy Moment and WonderLander is similar to something we've been discussing for an entrance to Camp Darfur; a series of choose your own adventure teleport traps for people to understand the journey taken to a refugee camp.
We're taking a trip to Ashes and Snow next month at the Santa Monica pier if you want to come for a visit ;)
While Camp Darfur is up we are building ManorMeta outreach around displacement issues, integrated with the storylines of the pieces we're shooting inworld. I'd love it if we can integrate all of our work around central campaign issues; show complementary films at the drive-in, have peacetiles on display that connect the dots and have infocards and dropspots that make people feel at home on BWI while helping others find home too. I've offered to host the Sudanese repsycho shirts @ Manor as a way for them to get started inworld until we have vending opportunities.
When I first saw the island I imagined a bridge heading out from the arts center next to Manor across the way to the waterfalls and Camp Darfur. Not sure what Sue has in mind for the island but I think this is a great start!

Darlene, have you seen the film Wheel of Time? Werner Herzog (along with an amazing humanitarian aid worker/cameraman) went to Tibet to capture the Kalachakra in 2002. I was speaking with a brilliant multimedia artist in France yesterday about doing sand animations of the kalachakra and I imagined an amazing BWI project like your memory palace. It would be wonderful to get the SOUND made as the monks lay the sand down, the gentle scraping of wood behind chant and chimes.
I don't think anyone has done extensive time-lapse or animation of the kalachakra....have you ever seen anything like this that focuses just on the image?

Hey Evonne!:) I got to see the Ashes and Snow exhibit when it was here in NY...really impressive, beautiful immersive experience within a somewhat simple temporary structure/architecture. Ha, perfect that it's on the Pier there too....this whole thing has started to make me feel that Pier10 (which was the name from the dream) is perhaps meant to be literal in real life....with the real-life structures on the Pier#10 of various cities. perhaps.
I have not seen that film, really must.! I've read about it. Would LOVE to see the mandala palace emerge and dissolve....somehow in response to a visitor's journey or specific exercise. Near the bottom of this page is one 3d VRML animation of the kalachakra, I haven't yet found others.

Oh I hope this can come true, I'll join you on the rides!:)SHould be beautiful at sunset! I think it can bring a fun activityzone to BWI, and truly kickstart and maintain a fundraising 'thrill'.
Here's an article that engages my imagination with descriptive passages about a boardwalk amusement park .

Love seeing the beautiful carousel and games recently added to BWI- excited to see how we might connect these with productive fundraising...sooner rather than later?
Perhaps part to go to BetterWorldIsland tier fees, part to creator, part to the designated charity. Can dropcash links be integrated so people can do this through paypal?

Hey Does anyone have a really good map/overhead of BetterWorldIsland including the offshoot islands? If it doesn't exist we should really make one...ideas?
annotated with what exists where...ManorMeta, CampDarfur, the meetingrooms, the drum circle....maybe from the welcome area..?
also, I jotted a few notes on the workspace because nothing was there...definitely needs elaboration. Let's use that space to brainstorm more!
